The New 2009 Ford Fiesta ECOnetic

If you thought that the funky Fiesta petrol model was a winner, you will go absolutely bonkers for the new Fiesta ECOnetic which is due to be released in December.  It looks almost identical to any other member of Ford's funked up Fiesta range but if you Look a bit closer you'll notice the lowered suspension with low rolling resistance tyres to give it reduced drag and as you lift your gaze you will see its more aerodynamic set of bumpers.

Poke your head under the bonnet and you'll see a specially calibrated Ford 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine with a five speed manual transmission that is paired with a shift light which, unlike those found in sports cars, flashes green when it’s the optimum time to change up for improved fuel efficiency.  This helps it net a fuel economy rating of 3.7L/100km and a C02 emissions figure of just 98 g/km. Gone also is the traditional spare tyre which is replaced by a tyre mobility kit to help reduce weight.

Unveiling what he describes as one of the most fuel-efficient hatches available, Ford Australia president and CEO Marin Burela said the Fiesta ECOnetic “Is an economic car that has proved that you can go greener without compromising on cost, performance or comfort.”

“The ECOnetic will enable customers to drive a mainstream, fuel efficient and low CO2 emitting vehicle that is also stylish and affordable. “By launching a specific model, with dedicated Ford ECOnetic badging to designate its ultra-low CO2 results, we will be able to offer a clear alternative for those customers who prioritise low emission performance.”
